The destination of the year? Oman? Surprising? Shows how little we know of our world. Skift is a travel industry intelligence firm that offers some fantastic insights into the fast-changing world of travel (pun intended). And it picked the little Sultanate of Oman as its top destination for 2015.
Skift calls Oman a “small, ignored, slow, and laid-back Arab country an hour flight from the shiny cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha, along the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula.”
Oman is a great choice for Indian travellers as well. Muscat is well connected by air – from Delhi a direct flight would be just under 4 hours. And we are told that the country has a wonderful charm of its own – modernity is married with centuries-old forts that jostle with each other. Spectacular desert sunsets are there to invite you. Add some fantastic Arabian hospitality, and it seems like the road to Oman just got shorter. Rough Guides also recently listed Nizwa in its Top 10 Cities list. This was the Sultanate’s former capital and has a rich history where art and culture have mingled together, creating a glorious tradition that has to be seen to be explored.
Interested? Intrigued? Write in to us if you need to just talk of a visit to Oman. We would love to hear from you. And what do you think should be YOUR destination of the year?
