We remember going there almost ten years ago. It was a weekend that the meteorologists predicted would signal the beginning of monsoon. For once, these weather forecasters were right. The lush green of Kerala seemed to sway and hold its breath as dark, looming clouds sweltered into the horizon. We had climbed to Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site that deserves more of a mention from us later. And then, as they say, the heavens opened up. Caught in the middle of it, on the top of a hill, we could only watch. Trees ached and groaned. Streams of water turned into rivers. A cascade that seemed relentless. It was how the monsoon should be in all its beautiful splendor.
