Traveling solo not only lets you out of the cage of daily life, but also helps you reconnect with yourself. And there is no place better than serene South India for a solo trip.
Here are some places you must explore to get some headspace.
Hampi
If you are enamored with Konkan and Karnataka, then a visit to this place is a must. Hampi’s ancient ruins attract tourists from places far and wide. Witnessing the sunset from Matanga hill and boating across River Tungabhadra are soothing experiences. Staying here is very pocket-friendly which gives you another reason to be visit and explore this lovely place.
Once in a while, we all feel the need to be far from the madding crowd and chaos of people. Gokarna sets itself apart from the usual beach destinations by offering unique beach treks. Take the Kumta to Gokarna beach trek, climb up on some of the rocks and hear the waves crash around you. The experience is magical.
Varkala
Kerala maybe known for its alluring backwaters but let’s not forget its equally inviting beaches. With beaches like Kovalam and Varkala on one hand and Alleppey on the other, Kerala is ideal for solo travelers on a budget. Varkala, in particular, beckons with its tall, brooding cliffs overlooking the ocean where you can witness many a sunset (or sunrise) and never be bored. Wayanad
Wayanad should be on every wish list, especially on that of a solo traveler. Perfect for people looking for some adventure as well as scenic beauty, Wayanad is sure to please the active explorer with its caves, dense forests, and lush wildlife sanctuaries. But if you are looking for some quiet, walk in its coffee plantations, do some boating in its lakes or just take in misty mornings with a cup of coffee.
Murudeshwar
Located near Gokarna, this ancient port town boasts calm beaches and majestic temples with the chief attraction being the Shiva temple that is surrounded by the sea. Take a ferry ride, walk along its beaches, visit its many old mosques or climb up the lighthouse in nearby Bhatkal for breathtaking views.
Mahabalipuram
Similar to Hampi, Mahabalipuram has detailed rock carvings and ancient architecture. A visit to this place will give you a glimpse of Indian history at its vivid best. Walk around the UNESCO World Heritage temple complex, sit by the beach or do some shopping in the small market.
Puducherry
It’s time to forget Goa and dive into the deep waters of Puducherry. Once a French colony, it is now known for its brightly coloured buildings, delicious French cuisine, and the breezy promenade. And of course, for the spiritual or seekers of solitude, there is also Auroville.
