We welcome posts,
that show the thrill,
joy,
and adventure of travel from our readers.
We look forward to hearing about experiences
that are unique and illuminating.
Here is one such narrative from our reader,
and a fellow traveller,
Syed Shiraz about his journey from Khardung La to Delhi in his own words.
He made it in less than 24 hours despite all the odds he faced along the way.
I started my journey from Khardungla
at 6 am and travelled through muddy roads to reach Leh,
where I refilled my bike’s fuel tank.
Riding in the mountains is never easy with rocky roads and steep turns.
To worsen the situation
the weather was really cold with temperatures at a real low.
I had not eaten for almost 10 hours now.
Suddenly, a stray stone slid and fell near my bike.
Nearly hitting me.
I kept moving hoping against any more scares.
But when I reached Manali my bike broke down.
I was done now, I thought, I can never finish on time.
I rang up my friends to tell them my situation
and that now it is impossible for me to complete the journey.
However,
they encouraged me,
egging me on to get going with the ride as soon as possible.
I was unconvinced but they were persistent.
Gathering whatever bits of confidence
I had left,
I geared up and started on my way again.
And I made it!
I clocked 2 hours from Ambala to Delhi
and accomplished the entire journey in 19 hours 48 minutes.
I reached Delhi to a warm welcome by all aspiring and experienced riders.
I felt my chest swell with pride for finally achieving something,
that had remained a dream for a long time.
Here’s wishing you many more such amazing journeys, Syed!
