This Meghalaya tour is the perfect travel itinerary to get you started as a first time visitor to this region! In the six days spent here, you will be introduced to many of the picture postcard regions of Meghalaya – The world renowned Living Roots Bridge ( just 2.5 hrs driving distance away from the capital city), Asia’s cleanest village ‘Mawlynnong’, and some some of the best caving sites in South East Asia! To get things more interesting, we will also include some outdoor activities like kayaking and canyoning that are sure to get you going!

Day 1

Guwahati to Shillong

Your car will be waiting to pick you up from Guwahati airport and take you to your hotel in Shillong to start your Meghalaya tour. Dinner at your hotel. You can take a walk around or relax as you please. Make sure you get enough rest as you have an early start the next day.

Driving time approx. 3.5 hrs.

Day 2

Explore Cherrapunji

Early start – Head to Cherrapunji, which has been known to be the wettest place on earth!

Driving time approx.2.5 hrs.

Suggested places to visit:

• Nohkalikai Falls
• Dainthlen Falls
• Nohsnithiang Falls (7 Sisters Falls)
• Mawsymai Caves
• River of Caves. [Caves are possible only if it hasn’t been raining]

Head back to Shillong for the night.

Day 3

Day Tour of Shillong

Suggested places to visit:

• Visit the Don Bosco Museum
• Try Café Shillong for lunch
• Post lunch, visit the local markets of Shillong. Shop for souvenirs or anything that you’d like to pick up from Shillong.
• If you’re not too tired, you can head to Ward’s Lake or Lady Hydari park for an evening walk

Head back to your guest house for the night.

Day 4

Explore Mawlynnong

Mawlynnong has garnered much interest in the travel circle due to its famous roots bridge and stunning clean greenery.

Driving time approx. 2.5 hrs

Suggested places to visit:

• Early morning start and then a 2.5 hour drive through some beautiful hilly ranges to Mawlynnong.
• Visit the Living Root Bridge at Riwai Village
• Mawlynnong is Asia’s cleanest village. If there’s enough time, you could even drive down to Byrdaw Falls [18 km away].

Head back to Shillong for the night.

Day 5

Canyoning at Mawlongbna

Have breakfast and then head out for a day of Canyoning in Mawlongbna.

Driving time approx. 1.5 hrs

Suggested places to visit/ Activities:

• Canyoning is moving along a shallow river bed – alternating between walking, crawling, swimming, and sliding. This is not a strenuous activity, but it isn’t for someone who is scared of swimming or water.

Day 6

Spend the day kayaking and trekking

Start the day off early – kayaking is best done in the morning or at sunset. This is not a freshwater river activity but a more leisurely still water kayaking at the well-known ‘Umiam’ Lake popularly known as ‘Bara-Paani’

Suggested places to visit/ Activities:

• Have a chat with your guide and decide on whether you would like to do your kayaking in the morning or evening.

• Lunch will be provided by the lake.
• You can spend the other half of the day trekking to the legendary peaks,’lumsohpetbneng’ and ‘lumdiengiei’ which are a few kilometres away.
• You can also take a walk to the quaint Umiuh village nearby to experience a glimpse of local Khasi villages.
