It seemed to sound the death,
knell to Bangalore’s beloved moniker of “Pub City.”
When the Supreme Court ordered
the closure of pubs and
shops within 500 meters of National and State Highways in July,
it seemed to spell doom for the pub-hopping citizens of Bangalore.
The city’s buzzing night life around MG Road,
Church Street,
and Brigade Road seemed to wear a deserted look around weekends.
Is Bangalore’s heyday as the “Pub City” over?
It doesn’t seem like!
There seems to be no stopping Bangaloreans
when it comes to having a chilled beer.
If you are worried about where to grab your next pint,
we scoured the city for a list of pubs
that still serve the grub and the booze and here it is.
1.High Ultra Lounge
Located on the 30th floor
(yes, you read right, the topmost floor) of the World Trade Centre
at the Brigade Gateway Campus in Malleshwaram,
this rooftop pub and diner offers the most scenic view of the city.
Ideal for a dinner date,
you can also tag along with your buddies
to take the most advantage of Happy Hours
on selected weekdays and weekends on drinks and beer.
With Japanese,
Thai, and Korean cuisine on the menu,
this place is a must visit for those who yearn for good music and great times.
2. The Biere Club
Situated on Vittal Mallya Road,
this one will always find its place among the hottest locales in town.
One of the very first breweries of Bangalore,
the staff there are aware of every kind of beer that will suit your taste buds.
There’s a reason they have named the place in German.
Germans know their beers the best,
and the perfectly crafted German house beer is a perfect reminder
of why this is one of the most loved pubs in the city.
3. Sherlock’s Pub
If you are a fan of the beloved detective
from Arthur Conan Doyle’s classics,
then the name itself is enough to lure you in.
With multiple locations,
this is one of those places in Bangalore where you will always get a table.
And hence it’s ideal for those spontaneous after-work hangouts.
With food quality above average and the cost being reasonable,
regulars swear by Sherlock’s music and cool ambience.
A must visit for college reunions.
4.Windmill Craftworks
Located in the posh Whitefield area,
the pub invites you in with its wooden decor and live music.
Though it’s hard to find an empty table here without a reservation,
once you do, the experience is nothing short of amazing.
Expect well-crafted beer,
great service,
and lip smacking pub grub.
5. Hoppipola
Well-known among locals,
this pub has outlets at Indiranagar,
Church Street, and Kalyannagar.
However,
the one at Kalyan Nagar is the one that is
now worth going to with a number of indoor games on offer.
Their Long Island Ice Tea comes highly recommended.
6. Boozy Griffin
With a name like that,
who wouldn’t want to have a nice beer?
The Boozy Griffin’s most recent avatar is on Outer Ring Road
in the heart of Bangalore’s heaving IT sector of Marathahalli.
Expect typical pub grub
and liquor – the Boozy Griffin’s main draw is its prime location.
7. District 6
A combination of brewery,
pub and kitchen,
this charming place at Malleshwaram is as easy on the eyes as on the pocket.
With live music and live sports screening,
this one is a favourite among the young college-goers and office-workers.
Their in-house brewed beers
and cocktails along with pork yakitori
are a must try-out if you are visiting it for the first time.
