[su_dropcap size=”4″]T[/su_dropcap]his stunning eight day guided village walk and cultural tour has been designed to facilitate an authentic ‘discover on foot’ experience and provide a snapshot of rural life in the Himalayan Mountains of Sikkim. As an honoured guest, the locals are keen to share their way of life with you so you can encounter life as it is. Accommodation is at handpicked beautiful properties from where guests can traverse the terraced foothills and discover Himalayan adventure journeys through remote mountain villages.
You can get a better understanding of Tibetan Buddhism while staying in Martam with Rumtek monastery just 6 kms away. An easy hike of about 1.5 hours to Barsey Rhodendron Sanctuary takes you to a valley covered with Rhododendron with a magnificent view of Mt.Khanchendzonga and other adjacent peaks.
We have, by design, kept Turuk as the last location on the tour so you can soak in the entire Sikkim experience in this tranquil locality amidst unsullied gardens. You will be introduced to different Sikkimese cultures in various locations, get to understand them through interactions and by staying at their exclusive properties.

Day 1
Bagdogra to Martam
Arrive into Martam by late evening after your pick up from the airport/train station
Driving time approx. 4 hours.

Day 2
Martam
Martam is a low lying area surrounded by mountains and home to magnificent landscapes of paddy fields. There are numerous areas around the property you will be staying at for guided village walks and hikes. Depending on the extent to which one would like, Ourguest will arrange for this excursion culminating at the Rumtek Monastery.

Day 3
Martam to Barfung
Morning breakfast and depart for Barfung. Today we proceed towards the southern province of Sikkim taking a leisurely and comfortable drive. Driving time approx. 2.5 hours.

Day 4
Barfung to Okhrey
Post breakfast in the morning, depart for Okhrey. Okhrey is a largely upcoming off beat destination in Sikkim, with its fantastic landcsape and lush forests. It is also the start point to some amazing Rhododendron forest treks and hikes.
Driving time approx 3.5 hours.

Day 5
Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary
Morning post breakfast depart for a short walk around the village. Okharey is located very close to the Nepal Border and is in fact an amazing starting point for the famous Singalila Trek! The day of hiking will take us through the Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary which is located on the fringes of the western border of Sikkim. Large tree varieties, like the wild Rhododendron, cover this forest and during the bloom season (March-May), it is a sight to behold! The hike one way into Barsey camp is approx 3 hours and we camp there for the night. There are beautiful little trails that bifurcate into the woods and one can find plenty of quiet spots to take in the sights!

Day 6
Okhrey to Turuk
Morning post breakfast depart for return hike to Hilley and take the drive onwards to the warmer climes of ‘Turuk’- our next stopover. Turuk is largely unexplored and strategically located at the border between Bengal and Sikkim, making it an ideal exit point for onward journey to Airport/ train station.
Driving time approx 3.5 hours.

Day 7
Turuk
The final day at Turuk is for recovering from the past days of travel and walking. There are some options of short walks around the beautiful Heritage property and if one is in the mood there are some optional day drives possible:

Bagdogra
Morning depart for Bagdogra/ NJP. Approx. driving time 3.5 hours.
