Sari is one of the more offbeat places in Uttarakhand. Our little tour takes you on a journey to mesmerizing sunsets, beautiful valleys, with a bit of local culture and flavor that we are known for. Celebrate the best of Uttarakhand tourism.
From Jolly Grant Airport, the 16-km drive to Rishikesh takes about 45 minutes. Check in to a hotel. Evening can be spent in exploring Rishikesh.
The stunning six-hour drive is through winding mountain roads with rivers such as the Ganga, Alaknanda, and the Mandakini giving us company. We’ll make quick pit-stops at places like Devprayag (confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers), Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath for some neat views and clicks. Once we reach Sari Village (2,000 m / 6,554 ft), we will need to hike up for fifteen to twenty minutes to reach your guesthouse.
Sometime after a hearty breakfast or lunch, we hike for about two hours through rhododendron forests to reach Deoria Tal (2,438 m / 7,999 ft) with stunning reflections of distant Himalayan snow-covered peaks like the mighty Chaukhamba massif. We’ll spend a few hours near the lake and have a picnic lunch in a Himalayan setting. Should we choose to hang around for a longer while, we also get to walk down to Buransh with a mountain sunset giving us company.
This is a day reserved for enjoying the charms of the village. We can choose from a good number of alternatives like walking down to the village school, a refreshing bath in a waterfall, a delightful pahadi lunch with a local family, or a visit to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, the winter seat of Kedarnath. Some people just prefer to laze this day away and we love to pamper them with food and music.
The day starts with a drive to the magnificent Chopta valley (2,680 m / 8,790 ft). From Chopta, the three kilometer trek to the Tungnath (3,680 m / 12,073 ft) should take us about three to four hours. If weather conditions permit, we can trek further up to scale Chandrashila peak (4,000 m/ 13,000 ft), from where we get a 360 degree view of the Himalayan peaks including Kedar, Trisul, Nandadevi, Chaukhamba, and Bandarpunch.
After breakfast, we say our goodbyes to Cafe Buransh and start our six-hour return drive to Rishikesh. The destination for the day is a beautiful riverside camp by the side of the River Ganges. We should reach in time for tea and a game of volleyball. Sandy beaches and crackling campfires add to the charm of a lovely evening.
The first half of the day will be spent rafting the white-water rapids of the Ganges (Rapids up to Level 4 are available in this stretch). We can choose the distance covered during rafting based on the team’s endurance and appetite for adventure. After this, we check in to a hotel in Rishikesh. Evening can be spent exploring Rishikesh.
