Yes, we know, Spiti is touristy.
But how about seeing the non-touristy side of Spiti?
Spiti has a lot of aspects that are known mostly to the locals.
Here, we present you with a limited edition Spiti tour
that gives you a rare glimpse into Spiti‘s soul like no other tour.
In this trip,
you will be staying with locals in their homes
and experiencing their way of life by participating in some of their activities.
There are only 2 fixed departure dates for this one,
so book your seat before it gets filled up!
Reach Manali and take time to acclimatize.
This is extremely important and not to be taken lightly to avoid feeling sick.
You could visit the nearby hot springs at Vasisht
or one of the two temples to get in some sights.
Or we would recommend just chilling out in one of the old cafes
and get acquainted with the rest of your group.
The journey from Manali takes around 10 hours,
which means we have to get an early start.
We will reach Kaza,
which will be our base, via Kunzum.
Relax at your homestay with a cup of tea,
and then dinner later.
A wonderful homemade breakfast awaits you today (as with all days!).
We will head out to the river and have a relaxing picnic lunch.
Post lunch,
we will head to Key monastery where we will have some tea with the monks.
Next, we visit Kibber village and see the Chicham bridge,
which is truly a jaw-dropping sight.
Today we visit the 1000-year-old Tabo monastery
to marvel at its beautiful murals.
If you wish, you can hike to the meditation caves nearby.
Lunch will be at a homestay where you will get acquainted
with the different varieties of local food in Spiti.
After lunch, we head to Dhankar,
which was once the seat of the king of Spiti in ancient times.
Walk around and explore and then return to your homestay
where you can participate in making dinner.
Your day begins
with a visit to some of the villages at a higher altitude to learn their way of life.
We go first to Delmul and then to Komic,
one of the highest motorable villages in the world.
The approach to the monastery in Komic shuts down
during winter due to freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall,
and a chat with the people there will give
you fascinating insights into how they cope.
The last stop will be at Langza,
a place famous for its fossils.
Join a small fossil hunting expedition
and see if you find a prized one!
At the end of the day,
you will learn a bit about local cheese, liquor,
and rope making and can even try it out for yourself.
Today, we stop at various places on the way to Chandrataal
and click some amazing photos.
Reach Chandrataal and we camp in style with a communal fireplace.
We go back to Manali via Rohtang Pass.
Relax in Manali and have a great dinner together.
It’s time to say our goodbyes today as the trip comes to an end in the afternoon!
