Day 1

Leh

[su_dropcap]O[/su_dropcap]nce you arrive at Leh airport, spend the rest of the day to just take rest. You have to get used to the altitude! For sunset, visit the Shanti Stupa (a Japanese Pagoda built for world peace by Indian-based Japanese monks and inaugurated by His Holiness Dalai Lama in 1985). Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Leh.

Day 2

Hemis

After a leisurely breakfast, we drive to visit Hemis Monastery situated 45 kilometers west of Leh. Hemis is the largest and the wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. From Hemis, you are driven back taking the same route to visit Thiksey Monastery, located on a hill-lock with formidable views of the Indus valley. Thiksey is especially noteworthy for its gigantic seated statue of the Maitreya and is also known for its (Dukhang) assembly hall which houses hundreds of rectangular prayer books, stacked between wooden covers and bound in silk. After that, we continue to drive through a series of chortens to visit Shey Palace, the former summer palace of the King of Ladakh. Overnight in Leh.

Day 3

Khardungla Pass

Drive to the famed Khardongla Pass, which is the world’s highest motorable road at 18380 feet. Return to Leh in the afternoon, After lunch, one is free to explore the local market at one’s disposal. Overnight stay at Leh.

Day 4

Departure

This might be just a short appetizer. Come back again for a much longer visit to this beautiful place.
