There’s something magical about the North East. Not only is it one of India’s least touristed destinations, it’s also one of the wildest, most naturally rugged, and beautiful places you can see. Our Wild Meghalaya offbeat tour will take you through some hospitable homestays and allow you to interact closely with the locals’ way of life.

 

Day 1
Guwahati to Kaziranga
Pickup from Guwahati airport and drive to Kaziranga. On the way visit Khamakya temple.

Accommodation: Bon Habi or similar

Drive Time: 5 hours

Day 2
Kaziranga

Rise early in the morning for an exciting safari. After breakfast relax around your resort. Alternatively, we can arrange for a village walk and traditional lunch at a village of the Mishing tribe. Post lunch, go for a  jeep safari to the Western range of the park, which has a high density of Wild Buffalos, Rhinos and Swamp Deer.

Day 3
Kaziranga to Shillong

Today you will drive to Shillong, popularly referred to as the Scotland of the East. On the way take a brief halt at Umiam lake and just soak in the peaceful surroundings.

Day 4
Shillong
Drive to Mawphlang for an enticing forest walk in the sacred groves. The Khasi of Meghalaya at one time were animists who believed in the spirits of the forest. Hence, every village maintained a tract of forest called Sacred Grove where they used to worship the elements of nature and perform sacrifices. You could also take a peek at the enticingly named Elephant Falls.

Day 5
Shillong – Mawlynnong – Langkawet
After breakfast, drive to the village of Mawlynnong on the Indo-Bangla border. This picturesque village has the distinction of being the cleanest village in Asia. You can walk around the flower laden paths of the village and also visit a nearby Root- Bridge. From here, continue to Dawki, on the Indo-Bangladesh border. This place is also famous for the crystal clear Umgot river. It’s a sight to be seen to be believed.

Langkawet to Cherrapunji
After breakfast drive to Cherrapunji . On the way, visit the Nohkalikai falls and Ramakrishna Mission museum .

Drive Time: 2.5 hours

 

Day 7
Trek to Double Decker Root bridges
Living Root Bridges are unique live bridges found only in the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The trek passes through some verdant slopes, crisscrossed by streams. At some places, the stream has made some natural ponds, containing emerald blue water where you can take a dip. The trek is moderately difficult since one needs to descend 2500 feet into the valley and then climb up the same altitude again.

Day 8
Cherrapunji to Guwahati
You would be dropped off at Guwahati airport

Drive Time: 6 hours

  •         One jeep safari and one Elephant safari in Kaziranga National Park
