Madhya Pradesh is that offbeat gem in India’s incredible list of places to visit. Unsung, the state has a plethora of choices for the discerning traveler. There is wildlife. There are beautiful temples. And we have amazing festivals. Started just last year, Jal Mahotsav is an initiative of Madhya Pradesh Tourism and has echoes of the famous Kutch festival in Gujarat, which also you can find here on our site. The festival runs from October 15, 2017 to January 17, 2018 on the banks of the picturesque Indira Sagar dam, which is one of the largest in Asia. Jal Mahotsav is just 150km from the nearest airport of Indore and 80km from Khandwa railway station. If Kutch is about the desert, then Jal Mahotsav is all about the incredible rejuvenating life force of water.
You will arrive at around noon at the Jal Mahotsav festival. Despite it being December, the sun is still bright and shining in this part of the state. Check into your tent and then kick off the festivities with lunch. We have the finest of Madhya Pradesh cuisine at the Jal Mahotsav. Then, get ready for some activities on land, including a climbing wall, an ATV ride, or just try your hand at archery. If the adventure buff in you is still not satisfied, then try land parasailing or jump into the water for jet skiing. There are a plethora of activities to choose from. After high tea, we can head to the arena to watch the cultural dance. Or, if you like some more fun, you could try a hot air balloon?
In the night, laze away the December chill with a campfire. Overnight at a super comfortable tent.
Start off your date bright and early with a spot of yoga. Yes! You heard it right. We don’t call ourselves offbeat for nothing! There is nothing like the sun on your back and a few relaxing stretches to kickstart your day! Head off to the dining hall for a scrumptious breakfast before leaving the camp for your journey back home.
