Tucked in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas,
Dooars, literally translating to “doors”,
makes up the gateway from India to Bhutan.
This spectacular area is endowed with jaw-dropping landscapes,
ones that will linger in your mind long after your vacation is over.
Arrive in Siliguri and proceed towards Murti or Jhalong.
Freshen up before going out for a leisurely stroll
and getting ourselves acquainted with the area.
Today we shall visit the quaint little hill village of Samsing,
and take in the sprawling tea gardens, before moving on
to another tranquil village named Suntalekhola for birdwatching.
From there we proceed towards Jhalong Bindu
where we will see the gushing Jaldhaka Dam on one side
and the towering hills of Bhutan on one side.
As the sun sets,
we move on to embark on a jeep safari at Gorumara National Park
and spot rhinoceroses, elephants, bears, and deer.
It’s time to say goodbye to Murti as we shift to Gachbari.
Rest up before we get ready to see a tribal dance in the evening
and take some time to interact with the friendly locals.
We spend the night at Gachbari.
Today we shall be going to Jaldapara via south Kheorbari.
Home to massive meadows and riverine forests,
this lush green park is home to the leopard,
one-horned rhino, sambar, and many other animals.
The varieties of birds are in no way lesser, with the crested eagle,
Finn’s weaver, among others paying a visit to the place now and then.
We will take a walk around the area outside the park
to get ourselves acquainted with it.
We spend the night at Jaldapara.
We take a tour of Jaldapara National Park by taking an elephant safari today!
After going on this amazing ride, we go to Phuentsholing,
the border town that separates India from Bhutan.
We spend the rest of the day exploring the serene town
before returning to Jaldapara and spending the night here.
We start the day with an early morning jeep safari at Jaldapara,
before coming back and freshening up to leave for Kolakham.
This village, a perfect spot for bird lovers and nature buffs,
is situated in Neora Valley Reserve Forest,
which we will explore for the rest of the day.
Today we set out to visit the cascading Changey Falls.
Get ready to click some wonderful pictures!
Then we begin our journey across the alluring trail
within the Neora Valley jungle.
After we are happily fatigued,
we shall return to Kolakham and call it a day.
